If there is one constant element on Gotham, it’s that Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) never gives up. He’s Willing to stand up against LT Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara) (even though she’s on his side) and to anyone that stands in the way of justice. Not because he’s a hard ass like CSI Miami’s Horatio Caine, but because he believes in finding those responsible for their crimes and holding them accountable. So it really shouldn’t as a shock to Commissioner Loeb (Peter ScholarI) when Gordon knocks down the door at the GCPD and demands to be put on the case that began last week at Arkham. Loeb agrees and gives Gordon and Bullock 24 hours to bring in Gruber or they simply will be fired.
Jack Gruber (Chris Heyerdahl) is on the run and dropping electric bombs on those that prove a threat to his ultimate end game, whatever it may be. Gruber first stops at Irwin’s Electric to pick up something he left behind and that something is never mentioned on camera. Gruber then gives Irwin (Adrian Martinez) the same electric shock therapy he gave Dorothy Duncan and his sidekick Aaron Helzinger (Kevin McCormick) before he leaves.
As Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) delivers the file on Gruber he informs Gordon and Bullock that No such Jack Gruber exists, but a Jack Buchinsky does. Upon reviewing the file Bullock mentions how he was a successful bank robber and that he robbed four banks before the GCPD picked him up by “Mistake”. Meanwhile Nygma continues to try and seduce Kristin Kringle (Chelsea Spack) with his riddles by giving her a cupcake with a bullet in it. That has the intended meaning of “beauty is dangerous” Arnold Flass (Dash Mihok) tells Nygma to leave her alone and Kristin even mentions how weird he is to Flass as Nygma walks away.
Tensions continue to build between Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Carmine Falcone (John Doman) as Fish kidnaps Liza (Mackenzie Leigh) and holds her ransom. Fish tries to play it off as an anonymous kidnapper that just happens to bring Liza to her, but Carmine is no fool. Liza pays the ultimate price and Carmine makes Fish see his wrath. Falcone even lets Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) have some type of revenge with Fish as says Falcone tells him “Say your Goodbyes” because she has “places to be”.
Gotham seemed to pick up the pace this week as Gordon finally caught Gruber and even outwitted him in his attempt to kill every cop in the GCPD, via electric shock. LT Essen was glad to have Gordon back and Commissioner Loeb seemed to be nowhere around to dispute the argument. However, a welcome would have been appropriate in the episode that followed entitled “Welcome back, Jim Gordon”, instead of an episode that clearly features Penguin as the character of interest.
