Last week’s “Ye Who Enter Here” created one hell of a three-part story arc as Raina (Ruth Negga) revealed everything she knew about the Diviner to Skye (Chloe Bennet). Coulson (Clark Gregg) had a hunch that she might if he sent Skye to catch up with her after Billy and Sam (Patton Oswalt) rescued her from the grasp of Hydra. “What they Become” is the midseason finale and we won’t see the end of this conflict or any of these beloved agents again until early March. However, the end of this three-parter will be worthwhile as part two is a thrill a minute episode that not only answers several questions, but also reveals something some fans saw coming and also left others speechless.
As last week episode came to a close Grant ward (Brett Dalton) kidnapped Skye and kept his promise to return her to her father, The Dr. or as revealed Calvin Zabo (Kyle MacLachlan). Zabo revealed that he had intentions on taking out Daniel Whitehall (Reed Diamond), for the death of his wife seen in “things we bury”. Coulson however, beat him to the punch and put a bullet in his chest as everyone was trying to escape the Garrison.
Leo Fitz (Ian DeCaestecker) and Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) seemed to finally be over each other, as they had to work together to find a safe way people can move about the city and avoid another “Mac attack”. Fitz had earlier told Simmons that he’d rather work for her instead of with her, something no one on the team is in favor of. In fact Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) during her girl chat with Simmons seemed to have an idea of what happened with them before her time on the team.
Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) as predicted got herself out of the situation she found herself in after her Body double Agent 33 had ordered Hydra’s planes to shoot the bus out of the sky. In easily the most dangerous stunt we’ve seen her pull with the bus yet. As she flew it fast and made it do a complete summersault with missiles on her tail.
Coulson had Bobbi reach once more to Diego (Carlos Rivera Marchand) the non-speaking resident contact to find out if he sold them out to Hydra. Considering they didn’t show up in the game until the fourth quarter.
The big reveal and what will no doubt make “what they become” the episode to build on is that Skye was an avenger living in secrecy and lies. Having never fully understood her real name until now. Adding to it, the mystery behind her appearance and eventual acceptance on the team, makes this story arc all the better. Daisy Johnson played a major part in the MCU comics as every other superhero out there. The difference is this one lives on a week-to-week TV show and this origin will become something show runners Jed whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will shift a great deal of focus to. “What they become” is easily the best episode to air yet this season. As well as the saddest one because during Skye’s ”transformation” Antoine Triplett (BJ Britt) was present when he shouldn’t have been and became anther rock like statue like so many before him this year have.
However, it appears to be just beginning as even season one proved to be slow at certain points throughout its run, but had a huge payoff in the end. Hopefully season 2 can do it as well. Considering that this has been a tiresome and slow beginning. The storyline this season that has great potential to make Television history, yet again being the only thing Marvel will release until early May. When Avengers: Age of Ultron is slated to hit theatres. Agents of shield doesn’t return until early March and you can find all the details here, but Agent Carter will start up January and I will cover this “Mini-series’ as well so due stay tuned to “Movies and Televion show reviews” for Gotham and Marvel related content in the new year.
