Carmen Bicondova as Selina Kyle in Gotha

As Fox unveiled Gotham for us last week, we revisited a few old things such as the death of the Wayne’s, the promise of a good cop, and just how torn apart the city is without a true leader. Although it may have one in corrupt Mayor Aubrey James (Richard Kind), there is no clean face and no one those that are trying to make a difference can go to. Except for of course Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), as this week’s episode centered on child abductors played Guest Stars Lili Taylor and Frank Whaley.

The episode also centered on Street prowler Selina Kyle (Carmen Bicondova), as she was one of the unfortunate abductee’s headed towards an unlikely death. It was never fully realized whom these kids were being delivered to. There was a mention of a “Doll Maker”, but he, she or it, never made it to the screen; as Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) and Detective Gordon were quick to get to the bottom of the problem, before it escalated into something of a public scandal. Mayor James had made a statement to the public before he had confirmed with Gotham PD that the abductors were in fact in custody.

Selina however, was part of the second group of abductees as first group was found and set free within the first thirteen minutes of show, a record on anybody’s accountability. Selina also threatened the officer that was trying to put her into the system that if he didn’t get Detective Gordon for her she would say he touched her and even scream, Something that would’ve been hilarious had she actually gone through with it. Not only was the room full of witnesses to testify against the fact that no such thing happened, but watching the incident unfold as threatened would’ve been something to see. Selina also divulged that she rather go by the name of “Cat” seeing as though she is just a kitten anyways and not the women we’re used to seeing or even read about in the comics.

This week also found Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) nine miles out of Gotham and looking for a place to crash. On top of just how calling him “Penguin” drives the homicidal maniac within to come out. One can’t blame him either as he is just trying to fit into the world or be a part of something involved with crime or with society as a collective.

Renee’ Montoya (Victoria Cartagena) and partner Crispus Allen (Andrew Stewart-Jones) looked into the disappearance of Cobblepot and discovered his next of kin. A woman by the name of Gertrude Kapelput (Carol Kane); Kapelput believed he had found a women and had run off with her.

Gotham’s second episode was certainly far better than its pilot ever was as it focused more on characters in need of attention. Like Bruce’s (David mazous) strained relationship with Alfred (Sean Pertwee) as well as the tie between Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Harvey Bullock.

Next week’s episode will primarily deal with a man attaching dead people to weather balloons. Despite the mention of a shut down Arkham Asylum, something that will be an interesting development as it was revealed this week that it was opened prior to Gordon’s arrival in Gotham and shut down for whatever reason. Gotham airs on Monday nights 9. On Fox
