Agents of Shield “Heavy is the Head”

From Left Chloe Bennet as Skye, Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, Ming Na-Wen as Melinda May, and Clark Gregg as Director Coulson.

At the end of last week’s season premiere of Agents Of Shield Isabelle Hartley (Lucy Lawless) died or at least that’s what the show’s creators are leading us to believe. The same can be said for Idaho (Wilmer Calderon) as the mission to retrieve the Obelisk went horribly wrong. Victor Creel is still on the loose and in possession of said obelisk that Hydra so dearly wants.

Raina (Ruth Negga) re-emerged and helped Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) track down Creel, which led to yet another confrontation with Brigadier General Talbot (Adrian Pasdar). As much as Talbot is an obvious pain in Coulson’s ass he at least agreed to keep accepting “Small gifts” from what remains of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Leo Fitz (Lain De Caestecker) still dealing with the brain damage to his temporal lobe did receive some help this week from Mac (Henry Simmons). As he tried to communicate that he solved the issue of Creel’s mutation with a pre-existing device. This was no doubt different from the usual geeky banter we’re used to hearing in the lab from Fitz and the absent Gemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). Either way, it’s good to see that someone is trying to break down that mental wall between Fitz and the rapidly moving world he lives in.

This week’s episode put Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) in the spotlight as he swore vengeance on Creel for the death of his Beloved Isabelle. A loss he clearly had a hard time getting over and one that Coulson understood, as S.H.I.E.L.D. clearly has no agents worthy of keeping around at The Playground.

Although I am no Sherlock Holmes, it’s a safe bet to say that the playground resides somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area considering the show at least from a storytelling standpoint hasn’t gone to far, whereas in season one the show was geographically all over the place. An element, which hopefully returns next week as the commercial for next week’s episode, shows that Gemma Simmons has apparently defected, but we’ll discover the truth when we see it unfold.
